The Learning for Sustainability 2007 conference agenda will largely provide space for participants to break into smaller groups for workshops and seminars.
Our workshops for 2007 include:
Sustainable schools: Strategic planning for school leaders
This workshop will introduce the recently published governor's guide to sustainable schools. Although developed for school governors, the introductory booklet and training materials, developed by WWF-UK for the DfES. offer information and activities appropriate for everyone in a school leadership role. Participants will participate in a cycle of activities that they can take back to school and use to engage school leadership teams in strategic discussions around sustainable schools.

Initiative overload: how to develop ‘ Joined-up thinking’ in schools
Systems thinking is a vital skill for teachers if they are to successfully mainstream sustainability in our schools. From tackling complex issues in the classroom, to solving complex school management problems, understanding how everything interconnects and interrelates is essential. Using activities from WWF's 'Linkingthinking' resource, this workshop will introduce participants to the concept of systems thinking and will allow them to try their hand at a systems thinking approach.

Placing sustainability at the heart of the curriculum
This workshop will explore some of the distinctive features of Learning for Sustainability in the curriculum, including systems thinking, participation and reflective learning. It will also explore WWF’s “Learning Cycle” which offers an approach to incorporate sustainability into all strands of the curriculum.

Planning a sustainability programme
This workshop will help you reflect upon and plan a programme you are wishing to take forward through introducing and actively demonstrating WWF-UK's toolbox that supports the engagement of people in sustainability programmes.

Environmental management systems for schools
This workshop will consider ways in which recognition can be obtained for schools who have embedded sustainability into most aspects of school life. Special attention will be given to environmental management systems and how they might be applied to schools.

Getting governors involved in Sustainable Schools
This workshop aims to explore the value of having school governors involved in the process of becoming a sustainable school. It will explore the role governors might have and how sustainability fits with their responsibilityto be strategic, challenging and accountable.

Carbon Overload! Carbon Detectives' Kit for Schools
Climate change is the biggest single environmental issue. The Field Studies
Council has been working with DfES to develop an online schools carbon
calculator, enabling them to calculate their whole school footprint, set
targets and measure performance over time. This workshop will explore how
schools can address climate change in their learning and through action.
