From 7-18 November 2005, WWF hosted sting an online discussion for pupils focused on consumption issues.
Pupils were given in-class and online tasks to investigate their school’s ecological footprint (see 'Why consumption matters'), research options to reduce it, and discuss with guest experts and with their peers what can realistically be done in the short, medium and long term.
The following themes were explored in a safe and secure environment: Energy, Water, Food, Transport, Materials and waste.

An online teacher area will be available from July through November 2005 to support teachers whose pupils are taking part in the online discussion. This area is for sharing queries, suggestions and dilemmas. This area will not be seen by pupils.
The Resources area offers activity ideas, resource sheets, the story of the Very Hungry School and an associated worksheet which you can use in class to help prepare pupils for taking part in the online debate.
Also check out the Planning your topic area which offers help with planning further activities, as well as ideas for involving pupils in monitoring and evaluating their own learning.

WWF-UK’s resources for primary schools support work in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) across a number of curriculum areas in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. They encourage a cross-curricular approach to learning, with an emphasis on developing skills of questioning, collecting and evaluating information, forming opinions, and communicating views. To help you map these links, WWF has published four separate booklets to show how approaches to ESD have evolved in each country of the UK. These are available from the wwflearning Resource Bank - just click on 'Treasure Chest'.
