Our philosophy
One Planet Business is based on the belief that business and its stakeholders must share the responsibility for operating within the ecological limits of our one planet. Collaborative action by business, investors, consumers, governments, civil society and others is required to rethink how markets are structured and incentivised.
Only as a group can they develop a holistic view that allows them to identify where changes in structures can lead to enduring improvements towards sustainability. It is only through collaboration that complexity can be reduced and it is possible to identify where well-focused actions can create significant change.
Our philosophy draws on the the work of the world's leading thinkers on system change, in particular Frank Dixon, who plays an active role in supporting the work of One Planet Business Personal Mobility. To find out more information visit www.globalsystemchange.com/GSC/Home.html
System change
One Planet Business recognises that today’s market systems are fatally flawed because they do not automatically ensure that the progress they generate is environmentally sustainable – or that the overall scale of the human economy will be within planetary capabilities. As a result, the defining challenge of the 21st century will be to transform the system governing markets so that they work for, rather than against, sustainability.
Our new resource-and-emissions-constrained world will bring disruptive change and immense innovation opportunities for business. Engaging in the necessary system change to unleash these innovations and to shape the new rules of the game for business will give proactive companies a crucial competitive advantage in playing this game.
