Citizenship for the Future

This handbook for teachers provides practical support for those who have a particular interest in citizenship in the primary/secondary curriculum. Citizenship for the Future builds on the success of the author's previous work, which has been updated to reflect curriculum changes, in particulary, the new emphasis on citizenship and ESD.

The handbook is in three parts:

• Part 1 - provides the background and theoretical context for the activities, sets out their educational rationale and shows how they relate to curriculum subjects and cross-curricular themes.
• Part 2 - making up the bulk of the book, this section contains detailed classroom activities and photocopiable material, all of which help to explore issues of citizenship.
• Part 3 - provides further information about useful resources and support for teachers.

Building on much of the innovative work carried out in global education and futures education over the last 20 years. Citizenship for the Future clearly demonstrates how forward looking thinking is vital in times of rapid change. With a strong citizenship and ESD focus, it will prove a valuable tool, helping teachers to prepare young people for their role as global citizens, committed to working for a more just and sustainable future.
