Since the early 1990s, WWF has run a number of schemes to encourage and support schools in their ESD work. Participating schools were offered professional development, technical support and funding. In return, they have shared their experiences and learning. These schools developed innovative practices that focused on many aspects of ESD in schools, including: the school culture and ethos; school assessment; teaching and learning; pupil empowerment and involvement; community links, and school estate management.
In this section we have grouped our current schools stories according to their associated WWF support scheme.
School stories on key themes or areas of work

Our work with schools since the mid 1990s has highlighted a number of school stories containing themes and key elements which help to build a whole school approach to ESD or Learning for Sustainability.
In this section of the site, a selection of schools stories are brought to you, grouped under these ‘themes’ and ‘key elements’. The list is not exhaustive and there are many overlaps.
Full descriptions of the elements are taken from Pathways: A Development Framework for school sustainability.
