Preparation:


The school keeper might be able to help pupils with some of the survey questions.

Resources needed:

Copies of pdf Resource Sheet 4 (40 KB), clipboards and calculators.

Procedure:

1. Explain that saving water helps to save money (water rates), energy (pumping and treating waste water) and the environment (e.g. protects water based habitats and helps to combat climate change).

2. Invite pupils to work in pairs or small groups to complete the survey questions on Resource Sheet 4.

3. Pupils should then calculate the water savings that can be made and find the best way to present the data.

Extensions:

Pupils prepare a presentation about improving water efficiency in the school. This could be aimed at the Head, school keeper, school council and/or governors of the school.
