The tools in this section are designed to help you plan topics and design activities taking a Learning for Sustainability approach. These tools are not intended as blueprints, but should be adapted to your own needs and circumstances. You will find:
A topic planning framework
A framework which you could use to help you design a topic or a whole scheme of work. The framework is structured around a series of key questions: highlighted questions link to further prompts and information which might help with your planning.
A learning cycle
In developing activity sets to support Learning for Sustainability, we have adopted a learning cycle approach designed to help motivate pupils, build their knowledge, make links with there own lives and the big issues of the day, and review what they have learnt.
A structure for activities
All our activities follow the same structure and offer summary information (eg age range, curriculum links, learning outcomes), preparation and resources needed, proceedure, extension, and evaluation ideas. The Activities section offers individual activity ideas as well as some ready-made activity sets. More will be added over time.
Reviewing the planning process
To be really effective, the planning process should be reviewed to identify what has and hasn’t worked well. The
Learning during tool (45 KB) aims to quickly monitor work plan progress. The
Learning after tool (48 KB) aims to conduct an evaluation following the completion of a work plan.
